Augustin Claudot (1776–1843), eldest son of Charles I, Mirecourt.

Around 1810, luthiers crafted guitars and violins upon

request. As the guitar was highly popular, Mirecourt knew

how to cash in on this sizeable and promising market. Later

generations of the Claudots abandoned guitar making and

focused mainly on violins.
